Nintendo Direct May 17th, 2013

nintendo_direct

That’s right folks, yet again there will be another Nintendo Direct video streaming tomorrow, May 17th, 2013.  The facebook announcement states that the video will “provide updates on upcoming summer Wii U and 3DS titles”, so likely it’ll just be about release dates and maybe some new trailers.  I wouldn’t expect any kind of big announcement, but if you’re keeping track of any Wii U/3DS titles that are supposed to come out soon, then there’s no harm in watching it.  The facebook announcement also states that they will discuss future Wii U titles for the fall in another Nintendo Direct conference before the start of E3, which of course coincides with Nintendo’s decision to skip out on having a big presentation this year.

Edit: The Nintendo Direct will be held at 7am PST, which is about 10am EST for anyone on the east coast

Nintendo Direct Wrap Up – April 17th

nintendo_direct

If you were watching that Nintendo Direct video, then you know already the hum-dinger news that was talked about.  If you didn’t get to view it in person, allow us to share with you the highlights:

  • Start with possibly the Biggest announcement, a brand new Legend of Zelda game for the Nintendo 3DS that takes place in the same world as Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past.  The new game will be in the classic over head view of hand held Zelda titles, but will still use elements in the game to add a sense of depth and height.  While the game takes place in the same world, it is a completely new story and will feature completely new dungeons.  Link will also have the ability to “transform into a drawing” and move along walls, which will be key to solving many of the game’s puzzles.  Nintendo is aiming for a Holiday 2013 release of this new title. A 3D video should be available in the next hours/day or two to give you a sense of what the game feels like with the 3DS 3D
  • Continuing along the Legend of Zelda train, classic GBC games Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages and Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons will be available on the Nintendo 3DS eShop May 30th.  The games will feature their iconic password system to continue the adventure from one game to another.
  • Shin Megami Tensei 4 will be releasing July 16th, and all release copies of the game will come with a music cd, strategy guide and a collectors slip case
  • Three of the four Guild02 games will indeed be localized for the Nintendo 3DS eShop, as previously reported.  The games are The Starship Damrey, a suspense adventure game that gives the player no tutorial or objectives, Bugs vs Tanks, a game by Keiji Inafune where you control tanks that fight bugs, and Attack of the Friday Monsters by Kaz Ayabe, where the main character lives in a town where the monsters from old school japanese giant monster films come to life every friday
  • Both Bravely Default: Flying Fairy and Professor Layton and the Azran Legacy will be localized and released sometime in 2014, Professor Layton will see an EU release sometime this year
  • Animal Crossing New Leaf will release June 9th and will be released along side a special edition 3DSXL with the game pre-installed for $219.99
  • Wii U Virtual Console will be released next week in North America, and by the end of the year both NA and EU Wii U Virtual Consoles will see the release of Earthbound, or Mother 2 for you hardcore fans
  • Mario & Luigi: Dream Team will be out July 12th in the EU and August 11th in NA
  • A new Mario Party will be released for 3DS sometime this winter
  • the New Super Luigi U DLC for New Super Mario Bros U will be released this summer
  • Game & Wario will be in stores and on the nintendo eShop June 23rd
  • A brand new Yoshis Island title will be released on the Nintendo 3DS sometime in the future

Level-5′s Black Box Makes A Comeback[SPECULATION UPDATE]

6a00d8341fa9ad53ef00e54f0c5a108833-800wi

The infamous Black Box of Level-5 has made it’s return, teasing more possible games from the developer.  The last time this box appeared, we got 3DS eShop games Liberation maiden, Crimson Shroud, and Aeroporter, the Airport managing simulator.  There are no hints on the site as to what is contained in the spinning box this time around, however clicking it twice will cause the box to split into two, smaller, spinning black boxes.  Interestingly enough, this comes just in time for a 3DS centered Nintendo Direct conference in EU and US this coming Wednesday, whether this will be of any significance come Nintendo Direct time is unknown, but we’re looking forward to what Level-5 has in store for us.  Maybe the two boxes hint at both 3DS and Wii U eShop games?  In similar news, the last batch of black box games will be on sale through April 18th to May 30th.  Both Liberation Maiden and Crimson Shroud will be at the discounted price of $4.99 while Aeroporter will be discounted down to $2.99

[SPECULATION UPDATE]: Speculations seem to point that this may have something to do with Guild 02, which is a series of games similar to the last set (In Japan, the three previous eShop games were bundled together with a fourth and it was called Guild 01).  Guild 02 features Insect Tank from Keiji Inafune, where you’re a tiny tank shooting big bugs, Alone, from sound novel creators Kazuya Asano plus Takemaru Abiko, and Monsters Appear on Friday from My Summer Vacation creator Kazu Ayabe.  There are of course many other speculations, such as Professor Layton vs Phoenix Wright and Fantasy Life, but this seems like the most appropriate of the guesses.  However, maybe the two boxes signify two separate announcements, maybe we’ll get both guild 02 and PLvsPW/Fantasy Life? Tune in Wednesday to maybe hopefully find out

Batman: Arkham Origins Revealed(Not So ‘Rocksteady’ Though)

241-610

So the next Batman game has been unveiled by Game Informer: Batman: Arkham Origins. This game will be a precursor of sorts for the series, having a younger Batman face his many foes for the first time (one of these being Deathstroke). The game is being developed by Warner Bros Montreal, taking the reigns from the series’ previous developers, Rocksteady Games. The head of the studio is Eric Holmes, who was the lead designer for The Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction and Prototype. Batman: Arkham Origins releases October 25, 2013 on Wii U, Playstation 3, Xbox 360, and PC.

Also, there will be a companion game for the 3DS and Vita call Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate, being developed by Armature Studio, which was found by some of the leads of the Metroid Prime Series. Blackgate will be a 2.5D Metroid Styled game. No date has been given for its release.

Injustice Mobile Game Brings Simple Fightings And Exclusive Unlocks To iOS

The Injustice Mobile Game, which was announced a few weeks ago, is officially released on all mobile iOS systems.  This includes your iPod, iPhone, iPad, iWaffleIron, you name it, it plays it.  The game comprises of 3v3 fights duked out with simple touches and swipes of the screen.  Every playable character is playable in the mobile game, and every character has their supers from the console game as well.  Every playable character has a number of alternate costumes, including some that are unique to the iOS game.  This is also the only way to get these costumes in the console releases later this month.  The game is free to play, with a pay-to-premium service for unlocking characters and bonuses without all the work.  You can see a preview of the game in the video above, but if you don’t want to be spoiled on some of the unlocks, then just go download the game on the app store.

Injustice Demo Arrives April 2nd, Releasing The Kraken Not Included[UPDATE]

NetherRealm Studios has announced that the demo for Injustice: Gods Among Us will be arriving early next week.  For you PSN players in the US, you’ll be able to enjoy the game April 2nd, for PSN EU users and all XBLA players you’ll have to wait an excruciatingly long 1 day to play, with the demo dropping for those players on April 3rd.  The full game will be released two weeks later on April 16th for PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii U.  The demo will allow you to only play as Batman, Wonder Woman and Lex Luthor, and only let you play on the Gotham City level.  While it is a demo so it’s expected to have only a small amount of content, three playable characters seems like an odd number; It’s strange that they didn’t round it out with Superman or Flash or anyone.  There was also a Black Adam gameplay trailer released, and this post will be updated the second it gets uploaded.

[UPDATE] : Now featuring Black Adam trailer!
