Fighting Fans Prepare To Test Your Might On The PSN This Week

8569510315_5555e02232_z

Bit of a late post, considering the PSN updated yesterday, but better late then never!  This week fighting game fans have nothing to be upset about, unless you’re into Street Fighter…or Guilty Gear…or BlazBlue…or Sonic the Fighters.  Starting off Dead or Alive 5+ released on tuesday, bringing the full Dead or Alive 5 experience to the Vita along with some extra features.  The game features a far more in depth training mode, teaching players everything from the basics to the combat system specifics, as well as a touch screen combat mode.  Dead or Alive 5+ even comes in two different bundles, one for $69.99 where you get both the Vita and PS3 versions (which are cross play enabled) and another for $49.99 where you get Dead or Alive Paradise with the new game.  All DLC for Dead or Alive 5 works on both systems, so if you own it on PS3 and have all the DLC, no need to repurchase.  The base game alone will run you $39.99.

Also released yesterday were the new characters for Sony AllStars Battle Royale.  In case you missed our first post, the new characters are Isaac Clark from the Dead Space franchise and the mighty greek god Zeus.  Accompanying them is a new stage that mashes together Sir Daniel’s MediEvil and indie game The Unfinished Swan.  If you picked up God of War Ascension last week, you should have gotten a voucher to download these characters for free, if not, you can pick up each character for $4.99 each and the stage for $1.99, or all three for $9.99.  While my opinion of the game might be low, I strangely find myself compelled to get each character, you know, in case someone wants to really know how bad it is, that way they get ALL of the bad instead of just the base bad.

Dead or Alive and Sony Smash not your cup of tea? Wondering what the PSN has to offer for your PlaystationPlus Instant Game Collection? Well look no further!  This week PS+ members get Double Fine’s latest adventure game The Cave and Tekken 6 for the PSP for free, and yes, Tekken 6 is compatible on the Vita.  The Cave is a wacky adventure game in which you control three characters at a time as they work together to traverse a cave, with the entire game being narrated by said cave.  You’ll also get access to the beta for Defiance, an online, open world shooter where you can create your own character and play either alone or with friends in your global search for alien technology.  Defiance has some sort of tie in with an upcoming SyFy show by the same name, which will apparently give you the chance to affect not only what happens in the game world, but also what happens on the show.

The God of Thunder Lingers In The Dead Space of Sony Smash Bros March 19th

Announced today on the Playstation Blog, Sony PlayStation All Stars Battle Royale is getting another set of new characters and a new level come March 19th.  Zeus, the king of the Greek gods and father of Kratos, and Isaac Clarke of Dead Space fame (whose video you can watch at the end of this post) are the new comers to the Sony Smash battlefield.  Zeus has been classified as a heavy hitter, similar to base roster character Big Daddy, in that he specializes in a few moves that hit hard and gain a lot of AP.  His level one special is a close range thunder clap, while his level two special allows him to fly anywhere in the battlefield before exploding into a lightning burst.  Isaac Clarke is classified best as a mid-range fighter, but has long and close range options.  He is described as “A cross between Jak and Nathan Drake, with some twists”, and makes use of multiple weapons and the signature stasis lock.  Isaac’s level one special fires a kinesis field, freezing whoever it hits, then allows him to overload his Plasma Cutter which deals the actual killing blow.  His level two overloads his kinesis field, launching hit enemies away to their deaths.  The thing that interests me about these characters is that their level 3 supers actually alter the battle field.  Zeus’s Level 3 super transports his enemies to Mount Olympus, where he grows to titan height and crushes his enemies with mighty blows.  Isaac’s level 3 super has him opening up an air lock, sucking his opponents and some debris out into space, where upon he can float about and blast his enemies while they float motionless through the emptiness of space.  Much like the last characters to be released, a new level will be brought with them, this time mixing about MediEvil and The Unfinished Swan.  The new stage will be playable in story mode and online ranked matches, but if you want it anywhere else you have to pay the $1.99 toll just like before.  Unlike before, the characters have a catch to being free this time around.  If you’re one of the people to purchase the new God of War: Ascension game, you’ll get a voucher to download them for free when they release March 19th.  If you don’t buy the game, you have to pay $4.99 for EACH character.  Personally, I’d rather pay just under $10 bucks then $60.

Kat and Emmet Gravity Crash into Sony Smash Today

8466637142_057b236d8f_z

Starting today, the few people who are still playing Sony Playstation All Stars Battle Royale will be able to download the first set of DLC characters and the first DLC level.  Kat from Gravity Rush and Emmet from Starhawk will be available for download free for the next two weeks, afterwards they will still be available to download, but you’ll have to pay $4.99 each.  In addition, the level Fearless will also be available for download today for the low price of $1.99.  Fearless is the mash up of Heavenly Sword and the Wipeout series, what starts in a circular arena ends in a ravine with futuristic cars racing by.  If you don’t have PSASBR yet but, for some reason, still plan on getting it, then don’t worry! You will not need the game to get the DLC, so if you go download Kat and Emmet now, they’ll be waiting for you when you eventually pick up the game.  Both characters will have personal story mode scenes and challenges just like all the regular roster characters.

First Round of DLC For Sony All Stars Announced

The first round of character DLC for Sony All Star Battle Royale has been announced just a week after the game had gone gold.  The first two characters available will be Kat from Gravity Rush and Emmet Graves from Starhawk.  Whats more, is that these DLC characters will be free for the first two weeks upon their release.  Now, just to make sure there is no confusion, this doesn’t mean the characters will be available when the game launches in just under a week.  The characters won’t be available until sometime in January 2013, but when they do release, they will be free for two weeks.  You can read more at the US Playstation Blog by following the link.

The Reload, Arrival and Aftermath All Lead To This (PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale Full Length Live Action Trailer)

A rather anti-climatic end to the teaser trailers released up til now, but we have reached the end of this little journey.  Sony has released a live action trailer for PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale, featuring Kratos, Cole, Drake and even Sackboy going at it in a sort of underground fight club.  You can watch the trailer above if you see fit, and see for yourself what Sony has had up their sleeves.
